In most parts of the world, perforation rate ranges from 0.6% to 4.9% of enteric fever cases [8,35], but in West Africa, higher rates of 10%-33% have been reported [28,29,31,36]. In this review, the rate of typhoid intestinal perforation represented 8.5% of cases which is significantly lower than that reported in Western Africa [29,31,36].
